The sky and the sun above us

It is a well-known fact today that the "heaven" above us -or the sky- act as a "protecting roof". We call that the 'Ozone layer' and the 'Atmosphere'. It protects us from the meteors and burns most of their masses before reaching us; it also traps the heat to keep us warm by night. What is more interesting is that the atmosphere lets only harmless rays, radio waves and visible light in, because these are vital elements for life. The ultraviolet rays, which are only partially let in by the atmosphere, are very important for the photosynthesis of plants and for the survival of all living beings, this radiation is filtered through the ozone layer of the atmosphere. Meaning that our sky is "well organized" to do what is needed for life on earth. This knowledge was acquired recently thanks to modern observing tools and long researches.

Long time ago, before the birth of modern day astronomy or even any kind of telescopes. Quran has stated these facts of our heaven as being "a protection" and "well organized", as we read in (2:21-22):

"O ye people! Worship your Guardian Lord, who created you and those who came before you. That ye may become righteous. Who has made the earth your couch, and the Heavens your canopy"

Then the Quran describes that canopy as being "well guarded" in (21:32): "And We have made the Heavens as a canopy well guarded: yet do they turn away from the signs which these things (point to)"!

After developing powerful telescopes and doing a lot of observing and searching, scientists tell us that our sun some time in the future will lose its mass then becomes what they call "a dwarf". They tell us so, after they have done their calculations from observing other stars like our own. This future shrinkage of the sun has been foretold in the Quran in (81:1): "When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up"

There is also the conquest of space. This has been undertaken thanks to remarkable technological progress and has resulted in man's journeys into space. This surely springs to mind when we read (55:33):

"O assembly of jinn and man! If you have power to pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, then pass beyond (them) but you will never be able to pass them, except with authority (from Allah)"
